Our Purpose

Science, service,
and responsible
philanthropy.

Bellora Foundation exists to improve health and human potential by bringing together science, service, and responsible philanthropy.

We support research, innovation, education, and community-driven initiatives that address meaningful needs and create lasting benefit. Our work begins with listening, is strengthened by evidence, and is guided by a responsibility to use our resources thoughtfully.

We believe meaningful change is built through partnership. Our commitment extends from our local communities to communities around the world.

Our Mission

To advance health and human potential through ethical research, innovation, education, and community-led initiatives locally and globally.

Our Vision

A world where knowledge, opportunity, and innovation are used responsibly to improve health, strengthen communities, and create lasting positive change.

The Bellora Principles

Principles that guide the work.

Our decisions, partnerships, and investments are guided by principles rooted in nursing ethics, scientific integrity, and responsible service.

I

Respect People

We recognize the inherent dignity, autonomy, culture, knowledge, and lived experience of every person and community.

II

Do Good and Safeguard Well-Being

We pursue meaningful benefit with careful attention to potential risks, wider consequences, and the long-term effects of our work.

III

Follow the Evidence

We value scientific inquiry, rigorous research, thoughtful evaluation, and the readiness to follow evidence wherever it leads.

IV

Listen Before Acting

We believe the people closest to a challenge often understand it best. We begin by listening and seek to understand community priorities before determining how we can help.

V

Use Resources Responsibly

We treat funding, knowledge, time, relationships, and opportunity as resources entrusted to our care. We direct them thoughtfully toward work with the potential for meaningful and lasting benefit.

VI

Measure What Matters

We pair good intentions with evidence. We seek to understand whether our work makes a meaningful difference, learn from every outcome, and use what we learn to improve what comes next.

VII

Keep Our Commitments

We act with honesty, transparency, accountability, and integrity. We value relationships built on trust and believe our actions should reflect the commitments we make.

What We Support

Four areas of focus.

Research & Discovery

We support rigorous research that expands knowledge, addresses meaningful questions, and has the potential to improve health and human well-being.

We are especially drawn to promising work that sits outside traditional funding paths and has the potential to generate important knowledge or open new avenues of inquiry.

Innovation & Implementation

Discovery matters most when it leads to meaningful change.

We support innovative ideas and practical solutions that translate knowledge into action, improve existing systems, or develop better ways to address health and community needs.

Global & Community Health

We partner with communities locally and globally to address priorities identified by the people who live and work within them.

Our role is to listen, collaborate, contribute resources and expertise where useful, and support solutions that communities help shape and sustain.

Education & Opportunity

Knowledge creates possibility.

We support education, mentorship, training, and opportunities that help individuals and communities develop the knowledge and capacity to improve health, advance discovery, and create change.

How We Decide What to Support

Before committing Bellora Foundation resources, we ask:

  • Is there a meaningful need?
  • Have we listened to the people most affected?
  • Does this work respect human dignity and autonomy?
  • Is the proposed approach ethically responsible?
  • What does the evidence tell us?
  • Can our involvement make a meaningful difference?
  • Are the people or communities involved genuine partners in the work?
  • Can the impact be evaluated?
  • Is the approach responsible and sustainable?
  • Are we the right organization to help?

These questions welcome ambitious ideas. They exist to keep ambition grounded in responsibility.

Our Commitment

Philanthropy carries a responsibility that reaches beyond generosity.

It invites us to listen before acting, examine our assumptions, respect the knowledge of others, follow evidence, measure outcomes, learn openly from every result, and use resources responsibly.

We believe science can change lives.

We believe communities should have a voice in the work intended to serve them.

We believe innovation should be pursued with both curiosity and responsibility.

And we believe meaningful progress begins when humanity, science, and ethics work together.
